Gold vs Bitcoin vs Ethereum: Who is really leading?

Something’s happening with gold. Since the start of the year, it’s up around 57%, while Bitcoin has gained only about 19%. Around the world, people are lining up outside gold shops, and the topic has made its way into newsrooms, forums, and even family dinners.

The truth, however, becomes clear when we do one simple thing — look at the bigger picture.

Looking a bit further back

According to TradingView data, things look very different:

- Over the past 12 months, Bitcoin is up +65%, while gold is up +52%.

- Over the last five years, Bitcoin is up +756%, while gold gained +117%.

- And if we go back ten years: Bitcoin is up +34,877%, compared to +262% for gold.

The big twist: Ethereum joins the race

Now let’s add Ethereum to the comparison against Bitcoin and gold over the same ten-year period. The result is more than impressive — the returns of Ethereum are over ten times higher than Bitcoin’s and more than 1,500 times greater than gold’s.

Gold may be having its moment, but in the long run, it’s cryptocurrencies that win the performance battle.

Of course, past performance does not guarantee future results. But the trend is clear — digital assets continue to strengthen their position as a preferred tool for long-term capital preservation and growth.

What this means for investors

If we only look at this year’s numbers, gold might seem like the winner. But zooming out, Bitcoin and Ethereum dominate by a huge margin. The smartest approach remains the same — patience, a clear strategy, and discipline.
